After the successful development of our first range of dermocosmetic products (sold under the brand Lhov), our team developed a dermocosmetic ingredient, called the gold nanoflowers. Combined with light therapy, these cosmetic ingredient will help in the recovery of damaged and sensitive skin.

In health projects, gold nanoparticles are greenly produced using plant extract from the Reunion Island. For the development of dermocosmetic formulations, a novel ingredient was created, called nanoflowers, which consists in 50nm sized gold nanoparticles. They are not absorbed through the skin but they form a protective barrier. These cosmetics have already gone through intensive toxicity assays and show a protective effect on the skin through anti-oxidant and anti-apoptotic activities. All these activities are essential for a skin to recover and to be protected after damage caused by radiotherapy.

Antioxidant activity by DPPH method measured on GAuNP
Antioxidant activity by DPPH method measured on CAuNP

Antioxidant activity by DPPH method measured on GAuNP (image 1) and CAuNP (image 2) | Results are expressed as mean ± SD (n=3)

About the graphs (antioxidant test): The percentage of antioxidant activity was assessed using the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical assay. This method is based upon the change in color of DPPH solution from violet to pale yellow when this stable free radical converts into its reduced form by the reaction of a substance capable of donating hydrogen atoms.

Effects of AuNP on UV-A induced MMP-1 production

About the graph (anticollagenase activity): The assay was based on the evaluation of matrix metalloproteinase 1 (MMP-1 or collagenase) production by NHDF culture in the absence or presence of the GAuNP and exposed to UV-A.
